Laying in the Vjosa (vee-o-sah) river valley and by Dhëmbeli mountain stands the city of Permet. Burned twice by the Nazi occupations, the city has very few old sites. This town is the birthplace of some of the most important patriots of Albania. The Frasheri brothers played a key role in the renaissance period with their publications and national awakening campaign.
Permet was also symbol to the communist era because it was there that the Socialist Republic was declared in May 24, 1942.
One interesting site is the "Rock of the City" which stands between the river and the main city loop highway.
If you like hiking and hunting, Dhembeli mountain is the perfect place to go. Don't forget to take a dive in the cold refreshing waters of Vjosa.
For great food visit the "Kupola" restaurant on the northern side of the river.
